About Us

We are a group of experts with a high sense of personal commitment to help people with insulin-dependent diabetes gain control of their condition. Making life with diabetes easier became the incentive for Hedia’s founder, Peter Lucas, to build the Hedia Diabetes Assistant.

Based on habits of the individual person with diabetes and personalised input, our diabetes app generates insulin recommendations by taking many aspects of diabetes management into account – such as recording blood glucose readings, keeping track of active insulin, measuring carbs, calculating an insulin dosage, keeping track of activity, recording blood ketones.

History and Mission of Hedia

Hedia was born of Peter’s personal need to feel in control of his type 1 diabetes. Peter, now CEO, founded Hedia in 2016 together with Christina Kildentoft – a diabetes nurse with a Public Health master’s degree focused on diabetes – and Andreas Jespensgaard – a long-time business partner with experience in tech. The co-founders then set out with the earnest desire to help people manage their diabetes better.

Hedia Today

From our founding three, we have now grown to a team of 24, including medical experts, developers, nutritionists, and data scientists.

The passion of our team is evidenced by our achievements: we have won the Best Health Tech Startup with the Nordic Startup Awards, and have received funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 for our Clinically Validated AI-powered diabetes assistant project.

As an app, Hedia Diabetes Assistant is an approved medical device, meaning it has received CE marking – guaranteeing conformity with European Economic Area products – along with being registered with the Danish Medicines Board, as well as certified to ISO standards. Future of Hedia

We’re growing. We are currently on the market in Denmark, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Ireland, and Malta, with plans to expand into other languages for other regions. Meanwhile, we are in the process of becoming FDA-cleared, to prepare for the US market.

We are always working on new projects (including artificial intelligence) to ensure we remain valuable for our users, advanced as a medical device, and dynamic and fresh as a company.

Get the most out of Hedia

We feel that the proof is in the (carb-counted) pudding: try the app for yourself to see what it’s all about. Hedia Diabetes Assistant is free to use and is available on Google Play and the App Store.
